Guide

Which NYC public school accounts does a parent need, and what does each one email you?

Two are yours: the NYC Schools Account (NYCSA) for grades, attendance and report cards, and MySchools for applications and offers. TeachHub and Google Classroom belong to your kid; you get a window into them through the guardian summaries. The bus app rides on your NYCSA login, and everything else comes through whatever channel your school picked.

The accounts, who logs in, and what actually lands in your inbox

The pattern to notice: the portals hold the important things and email you almost nothing. The email you do get comes from the school itself, the teacher, and the class parents.

What is the difference between NYCSA and MySchools?

NYCSA is for a child who is already enrolled; MySchools is for getting in. Two sites, two passwords, both under your email address.

The NYC Schools Account is the one you will open most. Create it at schoolsaccount.nyc (mystudent.nyc goes to the same place) with your name, phone and email; a 6-digit code arrives from NYCSA@schools.nyc.gov to confirm the address. That alone is a basic account, which gets you emergency notifications and school updates. To see your own child you add them with the 9-digit student ID and the Account Creation Code that comes home in a letter in the first weeks of school. Lost the letter? The school prints another. Once a child is added, MyStudent shows grades, attendance, the schedule, state test scores, transportation, IEP and health records, and the report card when it posts. The account works in ten languages and has its own app.

MySchools is the admissions side: applications for 3-K, pre-K, kindergarten, middle school and high school, Summer Rising, the offer letter and any waitlists. You make it with an email, a mailing address and a phone number. A child already in a public school is linked with the same student ID and an Account Creation Code from the school's counselor or a Family Welcome Center. If you have a kid in kindergarten and one about to apply to 3-K, you will use both sites this year.

How do I see my child's report card in NYCSA?

Sign in, open MyStudent, pick the child, open Grades. The current report card is there on the day the school posts it, and past ones stay.

Schools must issue a report card at least twice a year, and most post one at the end of every marking period, so expect one around late November or December, one in March, and the final one in the last week of June. The date is set by the school, and it does not arrive by email from NYCSA; it arrives in the school's newsletter or app, which is why that last row of the table matters. When a report card lands, the conversation about it often starts in the class group before you have opened MyStudent.

Attendance shows in the same place, and it updates daily. If a lateness is wrong, the school corrects it, not the portal.

How do I reset my child's DOE (nycstudents.net) password?

In your NYC Schools Account: Settings, then Student Password, pick the child, type a new one. Takes a minute and needs no call.

Every NYC public school student has a DOE account that ends in @nycstudents.net. It opens TeachHub, and through TeachHub, Google Classroom, Zoom and the other apps the school uses. Kids forget the password constantly, and until you have NYCSA the only fix is a call to the school. With NYCSA it is a self-service reset. The rules: 8 to 32 characters, at least one number, one lowercase and one uppercase letter. The child's @nycstudents.net address itself is listed inside your account, so you never have to guess it from a spelling. The school can still reset it for you, and the DOE Service Desk is at 718-935-5100.

How do I get Google Classroom emails as a parent?

Ask the teacher to add you as a guardian. You get an invitation, accept it once per child, and then a daily or weekly summary of missing work, upcoming work and announcements.

Parents cannot log in to Google Classroom; it belongs to the student account. The parent-facing feature is the guardian email summary, and it only exists if the teacher or the school turns it on and sends you the invitation. Once you accept, you are linked to that child in all of their classes, and you choose daily or weekly. The summary lists work not turned in, work due today and tomorrow (or this week), and recent posts. It does not include grades and does not let you open the class. If nothing is due and nothing was posted, no email comes, so silence is not proof you were removed.

It goes to whatever address you gave the teacher, which is a reason to use one address for everything school; the two kids' school emails guide covers how to set that up.

When does each account matter: the 2026-27 dates

Three peaks. September for account codes and conferences, March for offers and Summer Rising, June for report cards and next year's forms.

Offer dates are the 2026 ones; the DOE announces each year's dates a few weeks ahead on schools.nyc.gov, and they usually land in the same weeks. We refresh this table every August. Every closure and early dismissal, with a feed you can subscribe to, is on the NYC school calendar 2026-27 page.

What lands in the inbox, and what does not

The portals hold the records; the inbox and the class group carry the day. Mamigo reads the second half so you can keep the first half to three logins a year.

Almost nothing in the table above emails you the thing itself. The report card, the offer, the attendance record and the assignment all sit behind a login. What does arrive, by email and in the class WhatsApp group, is everything that needs a parent this week: the trip form, the early pickup, the costume, the date the report card posts. Mamigo reads the school emails in Gmail with a read-only permission, reads the class group chats you choose as a linked device that can only read, and hands you one short brief a day with the few things that need you, with the dates written to your calendar. Guardian summaries and school newsletters are ordinary emails, so it reads those too.

It cannot see inside NYCSA or MySchools, and it cannot send anything anywhere. Which is the point of the dates table: three logins a year to the portals, and the rest arrives on its own. Mamigo is on a waitlist and opens in batches.

How we checked

Everything here comes from the DOE's own pages (schools.nyc.gov, schoolsaccount.nyc, myschools.nyc, the enrollment support site, the 2026-27 calendar), the NYC School Bus App launch notice, Google's Classroom help pages and the account guides that individual schools publish, read on 16 September 2026. The offer dates are the ones the DOE used in 2026. Every school layers its own apps and dates on top, so treat this as the citywide floor and your parent coordinator as the source of truth. If something here is out of date, write to hello@mamigo.family and we will fix it and update the date at the top.

Questions parents ask

Is NYCSA the same as MySchools?

No. They are two separate logins. The NYC Schools Account (NYCSA, also reached at mystudent.nyc) is for a child who is already enrolled: grades, attendance, report cards, test scores, schedule, transportation and the student password reset. MySchools is for getting in: 3-K, pre-K, kindergarten, middle school and high school applications, Summer Rising, offers and waitlists. Both use your email address, and both can ask for an Account Creation Code from the school.

Does NYCSA email me when a report card is posted?

Not reliably. NYCSA sends emergency notifications and school updates by email or text once you turn them on, but report cards are posted inside MyStudent under Grades on dates each school sets, usually at the end of each marking period. Your school tells you the date in its own newsletter or app; put those dates in your calendar and check MyStudent that week.

How do I reset my child's nycstudents.net password?

Log in to your NYC Schools Account, open Settings (or Manage Account), choose Student Password, pick the child and enter a new one. Passwords are 8 to 32 characters with at least one number, one lowercase and one uppercase letter. The school can also reset it, and the DOE Service Desk is at 718-935-5100.

Can a parent log in to Google Classroom or TeachHub?

No. Both use the student's @nycstudents.net account. Parents can ask the teacher to turn on guardian email summaries, which arrive daily or weekly with missing work, upcoming work and class announcements but no grades. Your child's @nycstudents.net address is shown inside your NYCSA account.

How are MySchools offers sent?

Families who applied online in MySchools get an email on offer day and can see the offer in their MySchools account; families who applied in person or by phone get a letter by mail. Waitlist positions show in MySchools, and a school with a seat contacts you directly. Every offer letter has its own deadline to accept.
